Seat Belt 101 - do you really know how to do it?

Did you know all 50 states have some sort of seat belt law? So make sure as soon as you get in your seat to buckle up, even if you are just driving down the street. Not only will you obey the law by buckling up, but it will keep you safe in the car.

So where does the seat belt go on your body? There are two parts:

  • The lap (lower) part of the belt needs to sit snugly across the upper part of your hips, never above your belly button.
  • The shoulder part of the belt goes across your chest and shoulder snugly, never under your arm or across your neck.

Make sure both parts of the belt aren’t twisted. And if yours does not fit, ask a grown-up to help you fix your seat belt. And be a good passenger by reminding everyone in the car to buckle up!
